The following are the steps involved to reglaze a porcelain bathtub.
  • Initially the caulking is removed
  • The tub is then chemically cleaned to remove all foreign surface matter (mainly soap residue)
  • The tub is then etched with a mild acid for bonding purposes
  • After the etch has been removed with a sponge and water, the tub is then sanded down
  • Chips and scratches are repaired
  • All dust is vacuumed and the surface tack ragged to remove any remaining dust
  • After masking off the area, the tub receives 2 coats of primer, sprayed with a HVLP system
  • Allowing time for the primer to set-up the tub then is sprayed with 3 coats of the finish
  • Within 15 minutes the tub is "dry to the touch."
  • Tub is re-caulked, and you may use your like-new bathtub again after 12 hours
